Revised Hippocratic Oath

About author: Arun Bal, Convener Ethics Committee, Medical Council of India, New Delhi.

The Oath mentions that graduates will keep uptodate with developments in the medical field. Sections 1, 2, 3 of the MCI’s Code of Ethics prescribes 30 hours of continuing medical education (CME) in 5 years for every graduate. However, of the 27 state medical councils, only 5 have some mechanism for accreditation and for awarding CME points. The guidelines prepared by the MCI for accreditation and for awarding CME credits will soon become operational.

Support by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and different state medical councils is crucial for CMEPEDIA as they play a central role in encouraging medical professionals to continue with their education after graduation.
